Trauma Counselling

about Trauma

Trauma refers to the whole spectrum of disrupting, shocking or extreme life events in which one experiences or witnesses serious human suffering in which there is no way to prevent them. Examples are crimes of violence, rape, acts of terrorism, kidnappings, accidents, robberies and the sudden loss of a loved one.

After experiencing a traumatic event, survivors will seek a way to handle the pain and the memories. At times, the experienced symptoms can be overwhelming and one may struggle to regain a sense of mastery in life and to restore his or her self-esteem.

About Trauma Counselling

Trauma counselling can help people who have experienced a traumatic incident to make sense of their experiences and feelings, develop plans to stay safe and learn healthy coping skills.

At times the memories of traumatic incidents would need to be reprocessed and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is indicated.
